I have HP Office Jet 5255. All of a sudden the printer will not print anything from my PC. It will print documents that I open and send with my iphone or laptop, but it will not print anything I open with my PC. Whats wrong here? My HP Smart app says the printer is asleep. But Ive disabled all power saving optins.  Help!?

Hi @jimboV,

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 is not printing from your PC, even though it prints correctly from your phone and other devices. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the printer status on the PC
Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and select the HP OfficeJet 5255.
Make sure the printer status is not set to Offline or Paused.

Set the printer as the default printer
In Printers & scanners, select the HP OfficeJet 5255 and choose Set as default.
If another printer is set as default, print jobs may not reach the printer.

Clear the print queue
Open the printer, select Print queue, and cancel all pending or stuck jobs.
Restart the printer and try printing again from the PC.

Restart the Print Spooler service
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and open Print Spooler.
Restart the service to refresh communication between the PC and printer.

Remove and re-add the printer on the PC
In Printers & scanners, remove the HP OfficeJet 5255.
Restart the PC, then add the printer again and allow Windows to install the driver.

Check the port and connection type
Open Printer Properties > Ports and confirm the printer is using a WSD or TCP/IP port, not USB if it’s on Wi-Fi.
An incorrect port can cause the printer to appear “asleep” on the PC.

Disable “Let Windows manage my default printer”
Go to Settings > Printers & scanners and turn off this option.
This prevents Windows from switching printers automatically.

Update or reinstall the printer driver
Install or update the HP OfficeJet 5255 driver using HP Smart or Windows Update.
Corrupt or outdated drivers commonly cause PC-only printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Kuroi,

After finally getting HP Printer UNINSTALLED, I was able to reinstall it. Once installed everything worked fine again. Getting it un-installed took some doing however.

Thanx again.
