HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4102fdn Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

hi

Our printer is complaining about a paper jam in the document feeder. But there is no paper stuck.

We have previously dismantled the "cover" of the document feeder.

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support Community.

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4102fdn is displaying a paper jam message in the document feeder but no paper is visibly stuck, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Verify Document Feeder Path:

    • Open the document feeder cover and carefully inspect the entire path for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be triggering the sensor.
  2. Check the Sensors:

    • Ensure that the paper sensors within the feeder are not blocked or dirty. Use a can of compressed air to gently blow out any dust or debris in this area.
  3. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This may clear any false error messages.
  4. Inspect the Paper Feed Rollers:

    • Gently clean the rollers in the document feeder using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Check for wear and tear; worn-out rollers may need replacement.
  5. Reassemble the Document Feeder Carefully:

    • If you have previously disassembled parts of the document feeder, double-check to ensure all components are properly reinstalled and seated correctly.
  6. Firmware Update:

  7. Perform a Printer Reset:

    • On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings and perform a factory reset. This may clear errors related to the document feeder.

Do keep us posted on whether these steps resolve the issue. We’ll be happy to assist you with the next steps.
