Hi @nsst,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating this can be. When your HP printer suddenly stops with a fusion jam error, it feels like everything grinds to a halt. Let’s fix this so your printer can get back to smooth operation.

What Does Fusion Jam Error Code 5 Mean?

This error typically occurs in LaserJet printers and indicates:

  • A paper jam near the fuser assembly (where toner is fused to paper).
  • Possible fuser misalignment or sensor issue.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Power Off and Cool Down

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Wait 30 minutes for the fuser to cool (it gets very hot).

2. Remove Jammed Paper

  • Open the rear access door or fuser area.
  • Gently remove any jammed paper, avoiding tearing.
  • Check for small scraps stuck near rollers or sensors.

3. Inspect Fuser Assembly

  • Look for:
    • Torn paper bits.
    • Damaged rollers.
    • Loose connections.
  • If rollers are worn or damaged, the fuser may need replacement.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Plug back in and power on.
  • If the error persists, proceed to the next step.

5. Update Firmware

6. Run HP App

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
