My son has a desktop with ethernet and printer connected to this net.  I try to send print jobs to this printer via wiFi.

It was working until a few weeks ago.  Now it keeps saying "printing erroR" and the job sits in the print queue.

Hi @silverfox38

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

The printer only supports printing from a USB cable and not over Wi-Fi. Try re-connecting the USB cable and check.

Also, try these steps -

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.

Restart the print spooler -

1. Turn off the printer using the power button.

2. Search Windows for run, and click the Run Windows application in the list of results.

3. Type services.msc in the Run window, and then press Enter on the keyboard.

The Services menu opens.

4. Right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.

5. After the service has been stopped, close the service window and use Windows Explorer to browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS.

6. Delete all files inside the PRINTERS folder.

7. Restart your computer.

8. Turn on your printer.

9. Try printing again.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your instructions but I already have run thru these.  In any case, I did as per your instructions but still I am getting "printing error".

Help!

Like I said, my son has the desktop with Ethernet running and the printer is attached to it.  my laptop is configured in this internet.  I use my laptop to send print job remotely using wifi.

Are you using ePrint?

Please send us a picture of the error screen?

I don't use ePrint; but use regular print function.

Your printer doesn't support printing over Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. You can only print with a USB cable connected between your printer and the computer.

Click on this link for the specification's page.

How is your printer connected? If it is through a USB, un-plug the USB cable > restart the computer > connect the USB again and check in the Device Manager if the printer is detected or not. It should be listed under either USB or Imaging Device.

"Your printer doesn't support printing over Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection."

This is not true.  I have been printing via wifi all these years.  Recently i had some Window updates. Ever since this has been happening.
The P1006 printer is a dumb one; it doesn't have any special features. It is connected to my son's desktop via USB.

Let me try your latest suggestion.  Will let you know.

Ok. I did all you suggested but still no luck.  By the way, even after I unplugged the USB connector the printer and restarted my son's desktop (I think this was you had intended when you said 'computer'), I still could see P1006 printer as default printer under 'Printer & devices'.
What is going on?

Please try re-installing the printer driver to see if that works -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

Download and install the built-in driver. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

I already did that.  I uninstalled the printer from my laptop and reinstalled it.  Also uploaded the latest driver.  Should I do this to myson's desktop also?
