Hi @JoeDeG001

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for flagging this—it's understandably frustrating to see a blue screen interrupt your printing. I appreciate your patience and will guide you through a clean recovery process.

Error code 00829C98 on the HP ENVY 7855 typically appears as a blue screen on the printer and indicates a firmware or internal system fault. A power reset followed by a firmware update usually resolves this.

1. Perform a Power Reset

This clears temporary memory and resets internal hardware states:

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cable from the rear.
  • Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable back into the wall, then into the printer.
  • Power it on and check if the error clears.

2. Update Printer Firmware via HP App (Windows or macOS)

If the printer starts normally:

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your HP ENVY 7855.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).
  • Navigate to Tools > Printer Updates > Firmware Updates.
  • Click Check Now and install any available updates.

Alternatively, you can manually download the firmware:

  • Visit the official HP support page:
HP ENVY Photo 7855 – Software and Drivers
  • Under Firmware, download and install the latest version.

3. If the Error Persists on Startup

If the printer still shows the blue screen:

  • Disconnect all USB or network cables.
  • Repeat the power reset.
  • If the screen remains locked, the printer may require a firmware recovery using a USB flash drive. This process involves:
    • Downloading the firmware .ful2 file from the HP support page.
    • Copying it to a USB drive formatted in FAT32.
    • Inserting the drive into the printer’s USB port while powered off, then powering on.

You're doing the right thing by addressing this early. Once we get the firmware refreshed, your printer should return to normal operation. Let’s get it back up and running smoothly.
