When I scan a document, I do not get the option for a PDF or Word document, only JPEG< BMG< TIFF etc:  I need to be able to edit the text in the scans.

How do I do this?

If you need to be able to edit the text in a scan then you NEED an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) application. There might be an I.R.I.S OCR application  installed with your printer.

Clict Start - ALL Programs - HP - <your printer> and look for an IRIS or other OCR or your printer's Scan application.

Drag this onto an open part of the desktop to create a shortcut. Run it and loofk for an OCR option.

Without an OCR scan, you WILL NOT be able to edit the scans.

Lastly, ALWAYS use the Scan application On The Computer. It provides far more flexibility than using the small control panel on the printer itself.

What application are you scanning in?  Does the import from scan in word not work?

Thank you for your repy,

I only have the options for JPEG, Tiff etc.files.  With my other HP, I had the option for PDF file and then I would convert the PDF to Word to edit.

I have researched on line how to get a PDF file on the LJP 148 and have had no luck.

I am using Windows 10.

Thank you for your reply,

I purchased the app Readiris 17 for the OCR

Look in your Downloads directory, or Recent Files off the start menu.

You might also want to look up your printer here on HP.com and see if the original software package has an OCR program and if you can download the package.

You can also try going to 123.hp.com/setup, download and run the HP easystart program and see if is recognizes your printer.
