The printer s-e-e-m-s to have gone to sleep and is slow in responding to a print request no matter the size. Sometimes, after 10 minutes, it will respond appropriately. I keep the printer on (per HP request) and am enrolled in Instant Ink.
I've attempted to troubleshoot, but the sign-in is not working. I have two passwords for HP: one for this webpage and the other for HP Smart. I've tried both without success, so any attempt ot go into"Advanced Settings, etc., stops.
I honestly believe that the printer has /does go into a sleep mode. ULTIMATELY, it prints out the requested job, but it has taken anywhere from 10 to 45+ min. I've tried hitting the "Info" button to check the integrity of the unit and its wireless signal strength; I've tried the "turn it off, turn it on" deal. No solution.

Hi @Kimoeagle
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand your HP LaserJet MFP is eventually completing print jobs but is taking several minutes to much longer before responding. Since the printer does print successfully in the end, let's work together to identify what may be causing the delay.
To help narrow this down, could you kindly confirm the following?
- Is the printer connected via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB?
- When the delay occurs, do you see any error messages or blinking lights on the printer?
- Are all devices on the same network?
In the meantime, kindly try these steps and confirm :
1. Adjust Sleep Mode Settings
Since the printer appears to behave similarly to a device taking longer than expected to wake from sleep mode:
- Open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
- Navigate to Power Management or Energy Settings.
- Increase the Sleep Timer or temporarily disable Sleep Mode for testing purposes.
- Save the changes and monitor printer performance.
2. Update Printer Firmware
- Open HP App.
- Select your printer.
- Check for available firmware updates and install any available updates.
3. Check the Wireless Signal
- Print a Network Configuration Report.
- Verify that the signal strength is good and that the printer maintains a stable network connection.
4. Test with a USB Connection
If available, connect the printer directly to the computer with a USB cable and perform several test prints. This helps determine whether the delay is related to the wireless connection or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

To reply, etc. to your advice:
1) My printer is conected to the Wi-fi, and it sits about a foot away from a router (Eero).
2. No, no blinking lights, error messages, etc. come on. However, in the middle of the night, it lights up (turns on?)
and I suspect that my printer has been "polled" to check on my "printerInk" status.
3. I have followed the instructions you've given, but for some reason, it does not accept my signin for the printer.I have three different signins for HP: HP,HP Smart and HP Laptop. None work, and there is NO option to go for a 'new' password. I Got to the "Power Mgt./Energy Settings anP that I am repeated customer, but I have no other option than to call Tech Support, ND after an hours-long wait, MAYBE a human will answer.
