Can I print a color transparency without having the entire page turn brown (heat I guess)?

Above answer is correct. If they are turning brown then they are definitely not suitable for laser and could destroy the fusing unit. Inkjet transparencies have a low melting point.

This is likely due to any problem with the used media.
Please replace the Transparency paper with another type/brand, make sure it is intended for laser printers, as otherwise it may melt from the heat and damage the printer.
Also, make sure the paper type is correctly configured in your printer driver as transparency or special media.
