I understand that you are facing issues with your HP LaserJet 1020 Plus Printer wherein you cannot set the printer as default.
This issue could occur if you are not logged in as the administrator on the computer
Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.
And here are a few steps in the links: Set the default printer
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Hello DVShah,
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand you are facing issue setting up your printer as Default.
Please follow the below given steps and you will be able to set the printer as default.
- Click on Start on your computer.
- Type“regedit” followed by the enter key in the “search program and files” text box in the pop up menu that appears after clicking the Windows“start button” in the lower left hand corner of the Windows desktop screen.
- Next, click “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” in the left hand pane of the Windows registry editor.
- Then click“Software” followed by “Microsoft” and next “Windows NT”.
- While under the “Windows NT” entry, click “CurrentVersion” and then “Windows”.
- Now, one of the entries you should see in the right hand pane is“Device”. If the value for “Device” as noted under the “Data” area is anything other than the printer you are using, then highlight “Device” in the right hand pane with the mouse and press the delete key to remove it.
- Restart the computer so it starts with the altered Windows system registry.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Hello Sir,
This issue occurs because printer doesn't have a permission to set as Default printer Just follow these steps
1)Go to run cmd > services.msc > print spooler>right click on properties >
change automatic to manual and apply
2)Go to run cmd> Regedit> Hkey_current_User> Software>Microsoft>
WindowsNT>Current Version>windows
right Click on that properties > give permissions Full control and read option
and then Close the Regedit option
3)Restart the Pc And then again Go to run cmd> services.msc> print spooler> right click on properties>
change it to automatic and apply
and Then check
4)After these steps Printer will be set as Default .
Although I am an HP employee,
I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
