Hello!
Our Company inherited a Polycom HDX 8000 from the company that used to be in our office.
I've started tinkering with it to see if we might be able to use it for our international business calls, but have a few general questions & find the all inclusive manual for all the different HDX models a bit daunting. I've done a cursory once over the manual but have a couple questions still.
1. Do I need to have a wired internet connection for the machine or is there a way to set it up via wireless?
2. Do we need to have a phone line to make use of the HDX 8000, or will we be able to use it via the internet once we have the connection?
I'm sure that I'll probably have a few more questions as I continue to see whether this is a good fit for our office needs!
Thanks so much!

- Do I need to have a wired internet connection for the machine or is there a way to set it up via wireless?
A: the Polycom videoconferencing unit supports a wired IP connection natively. To use it on a wireless network the user would provide a wireless bridge that is approved by their corporate IT organization. In a wireless network there can be issues if the wireless network has not be designed to support interactive technologies and especially videoconferencing which will result in a downgraded videoconferencing experience. Things like unacceptable video quality (lost frames producing jerky and broken up video) and poor audio (like lost syllables).
- Do we need to have a phone line to make use of the HDX 8000, or will we be able to use it via the internet once we have the connection?
A: The IP connection will provide all the communications you need to do audio, video and data communications with other standards based communications. Additionally the HDX 8000 supports circuit switched communications, like ISDN, with an additional interface module and a POTS line for voice only communications via the POTS interface on the unit.
