We use a test network which does not connect with the Internet for testing HDX endpoint solutions.  We use 1.1.1.xxx as our test network.  This works well for doing test calls prior to implementation.  However, we are now trying to test Polycom Touch Control (PTC) units with HDX 9000 systems and the PTC is giving us an error message that it is not connected to an IP network.  We do not use DHCP on this network.  When we bring the PTC to a network with DHCP, it accepts the IP address it is given but this network is not acceptable for testing because we do not use DHCP in a production environment for security reasons.

Why won't the PTC accept a static IP address?

Are you also giving it the subnet mask and the gateway and the DNS?  If so please open and escalate a service report, there is no reason that is known why this would not work.

I am giving it a subnet mask, gateway and DNS but they are in a sense fictional since the test network is not allowed to access the Internet.  The gateway and DNS we give for testing videoconference systems is 1.1.1.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.  Test calls are only made inside the subnet of 1.1.1.xxx.  ie:1.1.1.2 to 1.1.1.20.  Does the PTC require access to the Internet to work?  This was not necessary for HDX, VSX, or ViewStation systems.  If the PTC requires actual access to the Internet; I assume it will not work in a closed network or corporate campus environment where all calls are internal.

So my question is:  Does the PTC require access to the Internet to work?

Thank you.

No, PTC works fine inside networks without internet connection. It doesn't matter how (DHCP or manual) settings were done.
