Hi, We have 3 systems, viewstation (about 11 years old), VSX8000 (about 6 years old) and brand new HDX7000.

Calls between the viewstation and VSX8000 are perfect. View and audio are great. Both hooked up to an LCD TV.

With the new HDX7000, calls to the 2 older systems produce very poor image quality received from the older models.

We played with the call bandwidth but that did not change much.

Any idea what might be causing this and how to acheive a better video quality?

All devices are on the LAN and on the same switch, so there is no network issues here.

Thanks

I found this little "trick" a few months ago to the point that I felt it necessary to record a Helpdesk Article".  Mostly6 an aide memoire.

By default HDX will try & negotiate best frame rate to the detriment, if necessary of resolution.
HDX-HDX 4CIF to HD
VSX-VSX 4CIF
HDX-VSX HDX gets 4CIF but sends only CIF.
Connect to the HDX using Telnet.
enter following command.
config preferresolution 0 true

Retest to VSX.

Asfor the ViewStation.  OK so long as it work but time to plan to move on.

Pete

PS: Assuming all are on latest/last s/w release.

Thanks. I'm not very familiar with command lines. Is there a manual for all command or to show the config of the HDX system?

HP Recommended

Open a command line windows on Win XP/7 (Sart Run cmd)

type the command as in the OP leaving out the "true"

The HDX will return the current value.

Your typing may be interupted a scrolling info, just keep going!

Type Exit to quit. You'll get Connection to host lost.

Close the Windows Cmd Window.

Hi, I ran the command config preferresolution 0 after I logged in from telnet and this is what I got

2012-10-23 22:36:22 DEBUG avc: pc[0]: uimsg: [C: config preferresolution 0]
2012-10-23 22:36:22 DEBUG avc: pc[0]: APPCOM: C: config preferresolution 0 cmd response is 0

Is there something else I was supposed to do? I left the TRUE as you instructed.

Spoiler

I thinjk this is a response telling you the current state of the preferresolution setting.  Re-try with set preferresolution 0 true and the alternate set preferresolution 0 false.

That should get you different results, at least between VSX & HDX.  Pete

Still no improvment.

When we look at the picture from the old viewstation and VSX 8000 side, there is no issue.

When we loom at the picture from the new HDX side, the image is pixalated and blurry and not sharp at all.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Not sure about the ViewStation.  It's software was "closed out" back in 2005.  The command line does work VSX-HDX though.

HP Recommended

As a first step try to update ViewStation to the last 7.5.4 version.

The early realisations of H.263 codec had too many issues.
