HP Pavilion 15-AU007TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP Pavilion 15-AU007TX laptop with i5-6200U processor and Nvidia Geforce 940MX Graphic card (4GB) .when i play high games with charger plugged in there will be no lag or fps drops but when i suddenly unplugg the charger all games tends to lag and there will be lots of fps drop which make unplayable ,i even tried by changing the power option to high performance but did not work i even changed the power management mode to prefer high performance inside Nvidia control panel,i searched on the internet and some said that it is normal for a gaming laptop, is this laptop is designed that way or do i have  some settings  to change

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the FPS reduces when the adapter is disconnected from the PC. However, it works well with the adapter connected.

I appreciate that you've attempted the steps mentioned and I'll be more than glad to help you out:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

Thank you for replying. I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot.

I suggest you to update the BIOS, Chipset and graphics drivers for this laptop. Please ensure that the AC adapter is always connected during these updates.

Once you perform the updates, please check the power plans again and set them to high performance.

Good luck and please do let me know the results. 🙂

Some of 3D games are actually graphics intensive and hense requires a lot of power to run without any glitches and the battery is not allowed by internal system to give required power to GPU to run frequently and even if you want to run certain games on battery try running it on Intel integrated GPU and this will solve your issue.

I don't work with HP but a user of it.

You can run an application with integrated GPU by going to Nvidia control panel and turn to 3D settings and under applications setting select an application and choose run with integrated GPU, but remember this may result in drop in FPS and Graphics quality.
