HP OMEN Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello the problem simply stated is that one speaker light, the middle of the keyboard, and to the left of the WASD keys my keyboard does not light up. ALL of the keys do light up sometimes when the computer is booting up or in BIOS mode, but only sometimes. I have had this issue for awhile now and I cannot find a solution using the HP Support Assistant, plus I have not found anything online where anyone has had a similar problem.

I have tried going into the control panel to edit my settings but nothing was solved with that. I have tried going into my BIOS and enabling/disabling the f5 button actions but that did not change anything. I dont believe there are any hardware problems because the keyboard has completely lit in BIOS and when starting up or shutting down. I could be wrong about that last sentence.

Any help with my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Wyomingite,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I understand that your new OMEN's back-lit keyboard is not working. Some of the known issues have occurred after a BIOS update as the keyboard back lighting turns off.

I'm not sure if you did a BIOS update, but if you have - pressing F5 will turn it back on.

However, If F5 does not resolve the issue, then make sure your OMEN is up to date using the HP Support document Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 10).

I understand that pressing f5 turns the backlighting off/on, however that is not my problem. My problem is that only sections of the key board light up. Pieces that work are the WASD keys, the left speaker, the right half of the keyboard, and the left section that reads "P1, P2...P6." According to the OMEN control, these sections that work are called, "WASD," "Gaming Keys," "Left Speaker," and "Right."

I would appreciate it very much if you read my first description of the problem. There you can find that I have already used the OMEN Control Panel and other troubleshooting methods. For example, the speakers are tied together in the Control Panel, so why does only one of them light up? Or, why is my keyboard partially lit when I have changed the settings to light up the whole keyboard? Again, please first understand my problem so that we can be more efficient.

I am confused about what you mean that this is not supported by my model? My model most certainly had a fully working keyboard light system until it started to stop working about a month ago. I am not quite sure what you meant by that.

Hey there! @Wyomingite, thanks for your response and time.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

Don't worry I'd like to help.

As you mentioned that the keyboard was working one month before.

I would suggest you to try performing a system restore on your PC and check if it helps.
