Omen Z4Q38PA#ABG (HP Omen 15)

Hello.

Around six months ago I purchased an HP Omen laptop for the purposes of gaming, and up until recently (I'd say about the past two weeks) it has been working perfectly. However, it has started freezing. By that, I mean that the entire computer freezes up, absolutely nothing is responsive (I have tried alt-tabbing, ctrl+alt+del and closing the screen, all to no avail). The only solution is for me to hold down the power button until it restarts. From what I gather, the freezes are completely random, nothing seems to trigger it, although I have been gaming while they occurred (once with Hearts of Iron IV and the other two times World of Tanks) for a total of three freezes altogether.

I have tried testing for hardware failures, both using the quick and extensive tests- none of these have come up with any failures. If I can do anything else to assist or provide any other information to help come to a solution, please let me know. Furthermore, this seemingly has only begun to happen after the last few windows updates.

Hi @Vidarkek,

I see from the post that you are having issues with the system freezing on your HP Omen after the recent update. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Did you make any changes on the PC before the issue started?

Was there any update/reset interrupted recently?

Have you tried to run Windows troubleshooter?

In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the PC:

Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers for this PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check if the system freezes only while playing games. If so, I would suggest you try to uninstall the game and check the product if it's still freezing or not.

Please respond to this post with the details and results of the troubleshooting for further assistance.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello @Jeet_singh and thank you for the reply!

Okay, I'll start off with the questions.

I didn't make any changes that I know, and I always let updates finish. Furthermore, as you requested, I ran windows update troubleshooter and it claimed to fix the following:

"Service registration missing or corrupt (fixed)"

"Check for pending updates (fixed)"

My nvidia experience application also detected an update for my Geforce GTX card so I have updated that. The HP support assistant also picked up a number of updates so I have gone along with that updated all that needed to be done.

I was playing World of Tanks last night for several hours; and it did not freeze, the only difference being that I used a laptop cooling pad, whereas when it was freezing I did not use it as it was not with me at the time. Do you think it could have anything to do with that?

Thank you for the help, and I will keep you posted!

I'll let you know if it freezes again in the near future.

Hi @Vidarkek,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you were using a laptop cooling pad and this issue occurred when you were not using it.

Let me jump in with a solution for this issue in place of my colleague as he is out of the office today.

I suggest that you use the laptop cooling pad and see if the issue persists.

You have a good day ahead.

Hello Rainbow23!

Thank you very much for the help.

Indeed, I was at another house without my cooling pad all the three times that it occurred, it's never happened with the cooling pad, could just be a coincidence but I'm really not sure.

Thanks again for the advice, I was playing  World of Tanks (on high preset) last night for a few hours with the cooling pad and it didn't freeze, so perhaps that is a solution, I'll keep playing with it from now on and let you know of the results. Also there were (and are) some updates to be done so I did those and I'll do the rest when I get around to it.

Have a good one, I'll keep in touch
