Omen 15-5213dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

My HP Omen's left fan stopped working.

At first, it was intermittent.  Usually while gaming.  The left fan would turn off while the right would remain on and the game will become very laggy/unplayable.  I would do a hard reset, then the fan would start up again - all would return to normal.  For months I went on like this.

Now, the left fan just won't turn on.  Hard resets do not work anymore.  I updated the BIOS and hard reset.  Still no luck. The right fan works.  It even speeds up when I turn it to max in the HP OMEN CONTROL.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

UPDATE:

I accidentally had the volume on mute when testing a game.  The left fan started up.  I turned the volume up, soon, the left fan turned off.  I don't know if it had anything to do with anything.  I went ahead and reinstalled the Realtek audio driver.  'still working so far.

Thanks!

It's been a day of gaming and the both fans are still working.  I'm kind of leaning to the idea that it's a software thing since the left fan is working - it just seems to be shut off by a controller somewhere.

I did find replacement fans here:

www.ca-cooling-fans.com/hp-omen-15-5213dx-cooling-fan.html

I'll probably look more into that if it fails again.

Thanks, again!

'will update.

Hello.

Like I said in my first post, I updated the BIOS and it was from that link you're indicating.

Left fan is off again.  😞

Happy new year!  🙂

I already updated the Support Assistant previously and it did not work.

I also went into the advanced power settings section and made sure cooling is set to 'active'.

Here's what I did that's working so far, though:

- Update BIOS

- Open laptop

- Vacuum fans from the inside

- Disconnect and reconnect battery wiring harness - I'm guessing to ensure hard reset

- Disconnect and reconnect fan wiring harness - just to make sure of a tight connection

I have been running Warface and Eve Online all day and it has not failed, yet.
