This is the compatible CPU list. This list is from the Service and Repair manual for you laptop series.

Socket S1G3 CPUs are not compatible with Socket S1G2 CPU motherboards.

AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-86 2.40-GHz processor with 2-MB L2 cache

AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-82 2.20-GHz, processor with 2-MB L2 cache

AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-80 2.10-GHz, processor with 2-MB L2 cache

AMD Turion Dual-Core 35W RM-70 2.00-GHz with 1-MB L2 cache processor

AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 35W QL-60 1.90-GHz with 1-MB L2 cache processor 

Using any other CPU for an upgrade will be a $$ gamble and risk on your part.

Hi

Could you tell me what processors my MB can be upgraded with, if any, and if there are any MB's with faster processors that will fit, hopefully supporting more than 4 GB RAM or at least having VT enabled on the processor?  As a longshot, is my video card MXM, with the hope of being able to swap in a better one?

My current laptop info (mostly from cpu-z):

HP Pavilion DV9744ca

Processor: Core 2 Duo T5450 @1.66 GHz

Motherboard: Quanta 30CB 79.2E

BIOS: F.59

Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 512 MB

Hi! I have an 6735s model laptop, and planned to upgrade processor to rm70. Everything went fine until I tried to boot up. Fan spins, and HDD led blinks orange about every second and sometimes caps lock led too. If I switch the original sempron SI-40 back it works like a charm. Wheres the problem with new processor, is it broken? Waiting for replies and help, thanks!

With the new processor installed try a soft reset. Remove the battery and ac adapter. Press and hold the power button for at least fifteen seconds. Plug in the ac adapter(leav the battery out for now) and see if it will boot up. If it works, shut it down and install the battery. 

With the new processor installed, remove the hard disk and see if it boots into BIOS and whines the it cannot find a bootable OS. The HAL of the OS in the hard drive could be causing you grief. 

If the processor that you bought has these specs AMD Turion Dual-Core processor, RM-70, 2.0-GHz (1-MB, L2 cache, 35W) then it should work.That one is listed as an optional processor in the service manual. The processor that you installed could be bad.

Here's my question: Can i upgrade my ram and if yes how can i install it? I mean 2gb+2gb or single 4gb? Is it possible to upgrade it above 4 gb? I download the maintenance and service guide but don't understand it.

One more question which model ram should i buy? a PC2-6400, 800MHz, DDR2 ram can work on my system?

The simplest way to do it is to go to the website of a major memory maker(i.e. Corsair / OCZ ) and use their memory configurator program to find out which memory that they make is guaranteed compatible with your laptop. Only purchase guaranteed compatible memory modules if you want it to work properly.  No name merory, although cheap will not guarantee good results for an upgrade alternative!

Here are the product specs for your laptop. It will accept up to 8GB of RAM. So two 4GB compatible memory modules are what you will want to use if you are installing 8GB. That is only worthwhile if you have a 64-bit operating system installed. That is because Windows 32-bit operating systems can only recognize 3.25 GB or RAM because of the OS design limitation.( PAE physical address extension)
