Hello Erico, I have searched the HP forums for a while. I can see that HP laptops are only designed to support CPU upgrades that the BIOS/Model were designed for... i.e. if it in the manual as a option part etc.  that's clear.

Question is: where can I find any exceptions, since BIOS's do get upgraded, and it may be that HP update the CPU's that it can support.

Basically I want o put a Q9100 in a DV6-1362nr. The Service Manual does not list a Quad Core in the list. So question is, how can I find out if HP have subsequently added support for this.... I am on a F.42A BIOS version, and can find my Board version/revision too.

Any help welcome... thanks

Yep. I have, not one or two but three lap tops from, Yeah you guessed it, your favorite PC Manufacturer, HP.

display problems on my 2 year old dv2500 and scratches on the monitor on two newer HDX lap tops, and they are doing nothing about it after 2 years of people complaining on this and other forums.

No worries everyone! ! ! !. I have found the solution to my problems and yours as well.

DO NOT BUY ANY HP PRODUCTS ANYMORE.

THEY HAVE LOTS OF DESIGN FLAWS AND THEIR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT IS STILL GETTING PAID TO BUILD JUNK ! ! !

AS LONG AS YOU KEEP BUYING, THEY'LL KEEP BUILDING JUNK ! ! ! ! !

WHY???? BECAUSE THEY FIGURE WE ARE TOO DUMB TO FIGURE IT OUT ! ! ! ! !  AND IF WE KEEP BUYING,,, MAYBE WE ARE.! ! ! !

SO,, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?????

With all due respect,,,,,XDELL.

Soon to change my log in name to,,,,,, 4DELL.

Because software issues are better than  HP JUNK ! ! !

Hello.

I´m looking for an HP Notebook, and since I can not afford a bigger processor right now, upgrade paths are very important for me.

So, I would like to know if they are any available processor upgrades for the following notebooks, specially a Phenom II P920.

- HP Pavillion DV4-2111LA

- Compaq CQ42-106LA

Thank you very much for your time 🙂

Hi,

I have recently bought a second hand Compaq 615 and I was wondering if it is at all possible to upgrade the graphics card?

If so, what type of card can be installed, and how do I go about doing it?

Thanks!

Hi,

OK.

Here is a link to the manual for your laptop series.

The trick to the upgrade is to only install one of those that is listed as an Intel processor in the manual I linked to. Those CPUs are supported in the BIOS.

It is recommended that you upgrade your memory to match the FSB (Front side bus) speed of the upgrade CPU. If the CPU is 800Mhz FSB then the memory must also be 800 Mhz .  This will avoid creating a bottleneck between buses.

That means upgrade only with guaranteed compatible RAM from a top tier memory maker.  Do an online search to see who sells the memory that you need. If you try noname RAM modules you will be gambling with your money as the modules probably won't have the required timings and voltage requirements to ensure they will work.

erico

Hi,

This is a link to the manual for your laptop.

The following are the two optional OEM video solutions(discrete cards) as  listed in the manual. The AMD M92S2-LP is the best of the two options as it is High definition and has onboard memory (256 MB).  I really cannot recommend anything other than the two OEM discrete cards as only they are guaranteed to be supported by the motherboard. You can download, install and use  CPU-z to see which one is installed in your laptop.

AMD M92S2-LP (ATI Mobile Radeon™
HD 4330) discrete graphics with Hypermemory
support, 256 MB DDR2 (64 MB × 16 × 2)
x x
AMD Universal Memory Architecture (UMA)
graphics (ATI Radeon HD 3200) integrated with
shared video memory (dynamically allocated)

erico

Hi... Could erico, a moderator, or someone smarter than me (that would include most of you here) please looking over the post below and tell me if this CPU might be a drop in replacement for my DV 9000 (actually a DV9050T)???

The homework I have done makes me think it could work.  But will the BIOS or support chips run this 2.6Ghz at 2.6Ghz in the DV 9000 machine?

Any help *PLEASE*

Thanks so much.

Hi,

I cannot find the model "dv9050T" that you stated you have. Please recheck the product number on the bottom of the notebook.

Here is a link to the manual for the entire  dv9000 series.

There is a dv9050ea in the dv9000 notebook series.

CPU replacement in the dv9000 series is dependent on whether the notebook has an AMD or Intel chipset.

Download and install and run CPU-z  to see which chipset your laptop has.

For the dv9000 series the following applies:

The AMD chipset will accept a AMD Turion TL-64 2.2-GHz as a maximum cpu upgrade.

The Intel chipset dv9000 will accept an Intel Core Duo T7200 (2.00-GHz)

There is not an 2.6 Ghz CPU (AMD or Intel) which is guaranteed to be supported by the BIOS of the dv9000 series.
