Hi,
@blinxwang wrote:Hi Guys!
Just wondering; after reading the FAQ I noticed that it did not specify whether to use a "genuine" HP Spare Part CPU as a replacement/upgrade or a "generic" upgrade/replacement CPU that is on the Optional CPU List in the Service Manual. Can I use a supported CPU bought from, say, NewEgg instead of the "genuine" Spare Part CPU from a site like SparePartsWarehouse? The difference is that the generic CPU costs about $100 dollars less than the Spare Part CPU. Any help would be appreciated.
Let me clarify it a bit. HP does not manufacture CPUs. The CPU brand sticker on a PC or laptop identifies the manufacturer. the CPUs that HP sells are purchased from Intel or AMD. The "genuine" Spare Part is just just an addtional cost that you bear. I refuse to accept additional costs.
So...if you buy a ''supported'''CPU from any reputable computer parts store, online or not, with the same socket and specifications it will be a successful upgrade as long as you install it properly..
Happy upgrading!

My laptop is HP-Pavilion dv5 1095eo. Can I replace my broken hard drive(WD SATA 5400rpm) with Seagate SATAII-300mb/s 7200 rpm drive? And will it work with higher speed compared to the original one ?
Thanks in advance!

Google the part number of your original hard disk to determine if it is a SATA or SATA2 type. That should let you know which interface your laptop has. Unfortunately, the spec on the original drive is not easily found by perusing data published for the public by HP.
The disk you are asking about should work. If you motherboard has only SATA connections internally, the SATA2 will default to those speeds. Be advised that the higher speed drive will also generate more internal heat. That is not a good thing. That is why it is a best practice to go with either a same speed hard drive or use an SSD.
If you can afford to upgrade to a solid stat drive you will get the best of both worlds. An SSD produces less heat, is silent (no mechanical parts) and operates at speeds that will appear as if you had upgraded the processor to the fastest available for your motherboard. I recommend the OCZ brand and use one in one of my laptops.

That should not be a problem. Search online and make sure that you get a compatible battery that has greater than 4400mAH capacity. There is no reuirement to purchase an OEM HP battery. The battery for my Tosiba has >6000 mAH capacity. Be sure and buy one that have a two year guarantee. The alternative is to purhase a spare battery that has 4400 mAH.

Can I put a faster processor in this HP Pavilion DV7 3067CL? The HP Pavilion DV7 3067CL has the 2.4 GHz Turion II Ultra M600 CPU and I was wondering if it's possible to put the 2.7GHz Turion II Ultra M660 in its place? Both processors have a 35 watt TDP so power and heat shouldn't be an issue. Does anyone know if it's possible and if so how? Considering the DV7 3067CL in question came out in September of 09 it should be possible.

I have a Pavilion dv6-1245dx, and I'm interested in upgrading the RAM and the video card. I've read that HP laptops often aren't able to be upgraded. What are my options?
I've never really been into the hardware side of computers, so I'll take recommendations on video cards. I'm interested in upgrading for gaming purposes, if that makes a difference.
Thanks.

Upgrading video in a laptop unless yours has the mmx interface is a no go.AFAIK the external video upgrade solution has't hit the stores yet.
Upgrading the memory can be done. Just search online to find guaranteed memory modules.

Hi,
I'm using a Compaq Presario Q41-205TU notebook pc. I want to upgrade the processor. May I know which processor I can upgrade to? I can't seem to find the listing of the processor in the HP website. I'm currently using the Intel Core i3 330m which I think is not fast enough for me.
Thank you,
Feisal
