Hi,
@DLeeS wrote:GREAT ARTICLE!!!!!
I have a DV8000 cto (the scanners it always comes out to a dv8300, idk why) but when I first started asking about upgrading the processor, HP just told everyone it could't be done. thank goodness HP is listening to their clientelle...it's a sad thing to spend $3000 on a top of the line laptop, and not be able to upgrade when it's obsolete.
Anyway, how do I find out what socket "I" have, and what I can upgrade the processor to. I have wanted to do this a year already. I have already taken it apart once with the great manuals you have and fixed a fan problem...I love HP! Not all manufacturers have that good of information available to their customers, nor do they care. that's why i stick with you guys.
So, can you help me out here:? It's got a 2.16Ghz dual core in it now...6600? I think... I'd love to upgrade the graphics too....but if it's not possible I can live with the NV GEF 7600 a bit longer I suppose. Also, do you need to put bigger fans with the faster processors?
You can find out quite a bit information by downloading and running CPU-Z. CPU-Z is a safe open source utility.On the first CPU-Z screen there is a section that says Package. That will be the socket type. Once you report which CPU and chipset is installed we can give you some compatible upgrade information.

erico

Hi,
@tournington wrote:I have a DV6-1355dx Hp laptop with a T6600 2.2Ghz CPU with a FSB of 800MHz.
Is it possible to upgrade the CPU to a P8700 2.53GHz with a FSB of 1066MHz?
Both of these processors support the PGA478 socket.
Thanks.
From everything I have read, that upgrade looks like a no go. It would be a $$ risk. The FSB would most likely preclude that one as a candidate anyway.

I bought an Mini 210 HD without a Broadcomm HD Accelerator and am now thinking I may want to install one.
When the BCM70015 PCi-e card becomes available can it be installed in the empty PCi-e slot reserved for the WANN in the back? I realize the blue and red antenna wires would need no connection.
thanks

Unless you give more specific information about your Mini, I can't help you. The Mini 210 comes in so many different configurations that complete product information is needed. Go here and read this HP document and then post the information. Quote this post so I can keep track of it more easily. Consider the fact that I am unable to look on the bottom of your Mini and read the information on the bar coded tag. That is what you must do.

Hi,
The following is a list of processors applicable and compatible with the Compaq 2100 series laptop motherboard. A replacement (upgrade) must strictly follow the listed information. You can find out which socket type is installed by downloading and running CPU-z .
1.8-, 1.9-, 2.0-, or 2.2-GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M with Intel Speed Steptechnology, 512-KB L2 cache,
1.2- to 1.3-V core low-power processor with 400-MHz processor system bus-
2.53-GHz Intel Desktop Pentium 4 processor-D with Intel Speed Step technology,512-KB L2 cache, and 1.2- to 1.3-V core low-power processor with 400-MHzprocessor system bus-
1.6-, 1.7-, 1.8-, or 2.0-GHz Intel Celeron processor with 256-KB L2 cache and1.45-V core low-power processor with 133-MHz processor system bus-
My reference is the Maintenance and Service guide found at the HP web page for your laptop under Manuals. See page 25. To suggest a specific processor, I need to know what the FSB and TDP are for your installed Celeron.

Hi!
This is actually my first time using this message board.
Straight to the point then.
I've got a HP DV5t 1000 w/ an Intel Pentium Duo T3200 @2.0GHz w/ 4Gb RAM...Does anyone out there know if my Motherboard allows for integrating a NEW, BETTER Processor?
And if so, WHERE would I get the replacement processor?????
(I also wanna max out the RAM to 8gb's, anybody know where to get some good Memory at a decent price?)
any and all help is greatly appreciated. 😄

Please download and run CPU-z and post the chipset that it reports.
