I am looking to upgrade my AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-60 (1.90 GHz) to basically the best processor my motherboard and BIOS would support for the HP G50-109NR.

I see on the user manual for the HP G50-109NR that it can support the AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core ZM-82 2.20-GHz processor (35W, 2-MB L2 cache).  Is there any reason the G50-109NR wouldn't be able to support another AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core ZM8x such as the AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core ZM-87 2.40 GHz (35W, 2-MB L2 cache)?

Based on the specifications it doesn't seem like this would overload the motherboard and shorten the life of the unit, and I feel like the CPU list in the manual is just incomplete.  Does anybody happen to have a complete list of the AMD CPUs that would be supported by the G50-109NR BIOS?

Any help would be apreciated.  Thank you.

Haven't found an answer to this question yet and I'm really trying to find a way to get this. I'm looking to see if there is a way to upgrade one or multiple of the USB 2.0 ports to the new USB 3.0 ports? I'm currently running a Pavilion dv6, model # VX069AV, 6GB of RAM, Intel 5 series/3400 series chipset, Intel (I think it's a quad) Core i5 2.40GHz, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. I'm really hoping so. If not is there any way I can either update different parts of the computer to make it work and or adapters that might work with it.

Thanks

What expansion slot does youe notebook have?

Re: the service and maintenence manual

The CPUs listed in the manual are compatible with your systemboard and have BIOS support. Any other CPU that you install is quite unlikely to allow your notebook to get past the BIOS POST screen. You might even see the dreaded unsupported processor processor message.

HP does not provide any other information than what you see in the manual or are able to glean elsewhere.

Best regards,

erico

I appreciate your help erico.  It's the fact that nobody can actually provide more definite information that really gets to me.  Even you said, it "might" be unsupported, which leads me to question what is supported.  In any case, I ordered the ZM-82 which is the supported CPU listed in the manual.

Anyway, you've been a big help.  I had been reading a bunch of your posts to upgrade this laptop, and they were very informative, so thanks erico!

Sorry for the name change... not sure what happened but can't get the old on back. But my computer as a 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro or xD Picture cards expansion slot. Hope this is what you were looking for.

According to the Service and Maintenence guide for the dv6 series your notebook has a ExpressCard/54 slot on the left side.

That means that with the purchase, installation and use of an ExpressCard/54 USB 3.0 adapter you will add USB 3.0 capability to your notebook.

Best regards,
erico

For this HP G50-109NR, I got the processor listed in the manual  - AMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core ZM-82 2.20-GHz processor (35W, 2-MB L2 cache), installed it according to the instructions, but when I power the laptop on, nothing shows on the screen.  Not getting any "unsupported processor" message, just black, and the fan might speed up for a little but then slows down again.  I plugged in the VGA to see if that would work and nothing still.

I went back to the processor the laptop came with, and it works fine again, but I spent money on the processor that HP said was supported, and now it isn't working.  Am I doing something wrong?  I tried to find a BIOS update, but there is nothing for AMD processors on the HP website.

Please help if you can.  Thank you.

If you reinstalled the original processor and it still works then I would suspect that you received a faulty processor. Take a very close look at the pins on the processor. All it takes is one pin bent to render a processor useless.

You will need to purchase and install a 1.8" SATA notebook hard disk or an SSD drive. The mini does not use PATA drives. Here is a link to the HP Support portal for your netbook.
