I purchased the HP Omen 870-224, with the assumption that I could have dual display via the HDMI ports,,as I'm reading posts, several users have indicated that the ports are NOT used for the monitor...Is that true and if so..How can I have dual monitor connection?

It is correct that the HDMI port on the main board does not function when there is a video card installed. No away around that.
All monitors need to be connected directly to the video card. Looking atthe specs for the Omen 870-224, it should have an nVidia 1069 in it. That will mean it has Dual Link DVI-D + HDMI + 3 DisplayPort giving you 5 ports in total. Connect to any one of those.
