Please help.

I am managing to do double sided printing which is great.

How does one set the printer to ensure paper turns over so one can read it properly by just 'flipping over' pages, i.e. not upside down?

Hope this makes sense.

Thank you.

Les

You are welcome.

The setting should "stick" in that if you create a custom shortcut with the settings you want and then save the settings, that shortcut will remain available in the Printing Preferences menu.

If you switch the Printing Preferences to another shortcut (either custom or one of the standard templates) and then save that shortcut as the "Preference", then next time you submit a print job, the duplex setting / shortcut must be selected in the menu when you submit that job to the printer.

Depending on the application you use to submit the job to the printer, the shortcuts menu will be available under Properties, Preferences, or similarly named setup within the application where you select "Print".

Happy Printing.

Set the Printer Preferences

  • Set the orientation (portrait or landscape)
  • Set to print on both sides
  • Set to "flip" on the short edge or the long edge

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click your Printer >

Printing Preferences > Tab Layout

If your software supports it, you can change the preferences and then create a "custom shortcut" from those settings for later use.

The following example shows four possible settings, two illustrations for "single side" and two illustrations for "both sides - portrait".

NOTE:  In the actual "preferences" menu, only one choice is visible - the example simply shows more than one option.

Note the little "binder holes" on the illustration.

If you have trouble visualizing the effect, test a blank piece of paper by drawing "binder holes" on the side of the paper used in your region / language to indicate the "correct reading" position.

For example, in the USA, text is read from left to right -- the "binding" holes are marked on the left side of the paper to indicate this is the correct reading position.

This "long or short side" methodology works "most of the time".  The only time it can be even more confusing is when creating folding greeting cards.  These use their own "logic" when creating the "long" or "short" side flip zone.

Hi Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for your detailed and prompt response.

I have gone into Printer Settings and understand your meaning of 'binding'... Will be testing tomorrow when more double-sided printing to do.

My printer has been a great model to work with, thanks to HP!

Regards,

Les

Hi Dragon-Fur,

Apologies for a late response.

Have managed to now set preferences for double-sided printing... Hope it continues to work properly.

Booklet style seems so much easier in the long run.

Have a good weekend.
