Hi,
I am having laptop version CQ62:452TU.
I am facing sound and video crackling problem when i run the laptop on "Battery" Mode.
Shifting the power mode to "High performance" solves the problem. But i think this still is a big problem which might affect the laptop after warranty period. I have updated the BIOS as well as sound drivers as per the latest avialable on the website.. I had been to HPs customer care but they were not able to solve the problem and cited the error in the OS. I reformatted the system but the problem still persists... Please help!!!
Thanks,
Vaibhav

I found that disabling "Exclusive Mode" in the Advanced tab of the Properties for, in my case, the Line-In and the Playback device, all stuttering clears up. The DPC Latency Checker still shows spikes, but there when they occur, there is no noticable effect on audio. I have Power Assisant loaded and running with icon in systray.
Easy fix.

I fixed this problem I had a long time ago. After hours of googling I found somebody who had found a solution of uninstalling HP power assistant. This may not work for you. Obivously, if you didn't have HP power assistant installed in the first place you can't uninstall it to fix the problem. Since I had this issue HP may have fixed the problem but I don't have any desire or need to reinstall HP power assistant.
That's just how I fixed it 🙂
Hope this helps somebody.

Hi my company bought HP 8710p yr. 2007. with Xp Pro, so I never had problem with Audio ADI AD1981HD SoundMax.
I've been connected on the battery on Xp a lot of working time but this never happens till I bought Window 7 Ult.
For a while my battery loose a power so I've been connected only on AC which on this way this problem never arries, till I bought a new battery last month.
In meanwhile I bought a win 8 x64. Same old practice; poping, crackling, very loud statics, when a sound have been reised or lowered on a start pannel. Same on youtube, movie.... etc.. but I heavent this on HDMI output ?! great
So here we go again.
First; driver version: 6.10.2.5240 latest
I have been tested a lots of drivers older (Win7 x64) to newer ones, turned off any audio enhancemets Smax4PNP run service, everithing on my mind which have might been connected to sys drivers, ... registry entries, googling for several years, nothing, tried everything, none. zip
So, on this forum I found that hundreds of people seeking help but HP engeneeres cannot solve this error on many HP models with ADi and STD audio cards. It might be design of audio hardware or some sofware flaw in Win7,8, maybe just Smax inapropriate driver.
- Speakers are in perfect condition.
I was werry angry on this thing, still I am, but, on my mind fall this crazy idea, might say stupid very a lot
I Turned off a sound scheme for default beep to none in Start/Control Pannel/Sound.
I've have now two days on battery only, except charging offcourse, no crackling, no statics, sensitive finger buttons working, on off like was designed to do......... I still can't believe, no, trully.
Latency mon is relatively OK, this was my nightmare, it is hard to find broken or unadequate driver, its like looking needle in a haystack; i have good experiance in latency problems.
Need to say, i've installed Microsoft generic HD codec latest 2013, and works fine, but I haven not finger buttons working (Mute button) which is activated through HP Quick Lunch buttons, and I don't wan't that.
So my question is:
Discovered that audio soundmax codec might have flaws on some hardware which is irreperable, sorry, but this can be. 1. So some frequences might overflaw in hardware bassis because of battery usage, which works on impulses and send power to capacitors.
2. On this I need help from programmers, looking in registry MSI (Interrupts) which they have connected through kernel.
These interrupts might have sending wrong information (power management - windows/bios), still drivers are from 2009.
or
power scheme for this audio card; also in registry.
I solved this matter on intel forum http://communities.intel.com/thread/32169, for NIC card. I have freezing, blocking in UI, everything was bad. So maybe this have inpact also on this problem. I am shure that if I find power management for audio card this problem might be a history.
I've turned off beep, thinking that, (on battery this is not happening on AC), signal first (codec) activate codec which is connected through windows kernel which implies sound, power management...etc, maybe I have avoided this first contact for this matter.:smileylol:
But this is defenetly not a solution. Drivers are still not written for win 8 32/64, maybe it would, maybe not, i dont know, it si to early to post as it will be or comming. It's up to the engineers, hey, we payed very expensive these machines....
anyway,
Thanks and regards, any help appriciated
sorry on my bad written english :smileyembarrassed:

after reading this post the OP is right on..!
I have been an IT manager for well over a decade... it makes total sense..!
We have a dv4-1117nr laptop and when hooked to HDMI the audio clicks and pops when it seems the video spikes as stated by the OP...
Knowing this I decided to open the unit and see if i could figure something out... I tried all types of drivers, bios, flash updates etc. nothing worked...
I went in and put some masking tape over the top and bottom of the HDMI port then I took some tin foil and folded it up to cover the port somewhat...
This helped a lot..! but didnt completely remove the problem.
It is tolerable now and is significantely lower in tone -the popping- when connected to HDMI; however I do notice that when the lid is up and processing graphics it still pops but at a much lower tone...
It is obvious to me now that HP has continued to FAIL at providing enough EMI -Electro Magnetic Interference- shielding on the GPU and HDMI port...
I applied my masking tape/tin foil covering only to the HDMI port and got a tolerable amount of clicking now to actually beable to watch a youtube video without going nuts from the clicking noise...

This has been an intensely frustrating issue for me, as I have a very significant amount of money tied up in my audio system, and having a preamp worth more than my car doesn't do me much good when there are incessant pops, crackles, random channel imbalances and stutters. However, after reading this (and several other) threads, I did find something that helped: the Fidelizer app (link: http://www.windowsxlive.net/fidelizer). Prior to running this, my DPC Latency showed me between 1050 µs and almost 10,000 µs. After running it (on the 'Audiophile' setting), I'm hovering just under 550 µs, and thus far haven't had any audio issues (after approx 15 minutes listening).
For the record, I've updated to Windows 8, which apparently means DPC Latency Checker doesn't return accurate results, but the fact that the decrease in latency correlates with the eradication of the audio problems I was having seems to indicate the Fidelizer did indeed help out tremendously.
This could change in the future, but as this was a pretty much non-stop issue, it certainly looks as though this has fixed my problem. Naturally, it would be much better if such a problem never existed in the first place, but I'll consider myself grateful to have it finally gone.
Hope this helps somebody else with this unbelievably irritating problem.

Same problem, too anoying crackling and popping sound. I have found out that it was a GPU throttle issue which was causing randomly generated pop sound(not from speakers).
However, I have found the temporary Fix by enabling nVidia GeForce GT 740M from "Set PhysX Configuration" in nVidia control pannel. This seems to have resolved the issue. I didn't hear that sound afterwards.
