I just purchased an HP Laptop 17.3 in Natural Silver W11. Like it so far. There is a headset jack. On my old HP Pavilion g6 I could use this jack to drive my powered Altec Lansing external speakers. I was able to use either the internal speaker or these in W10 on the Pavilion. On this new PC nothing happens when I plug in the speakers to the jack. Volume is up. Internal speaker is still being used. What do I have to do?

Managed to find my own solution. By right-clicking on the speaker icon in the lower right of the taskbar notification area, there are 2 choices: Sound settings and Open Volume Mixer. Select the mixer. 2nd from the top is Output Device. Here you have to choose Headphone or Speaker! I thought either would work. Once I selected Speaker I was OK. Actually the Sound Setting allow you to do the same thing.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
