Dear Friends., I have an HP Pavilion notebook model dv7-3085dx. I'm not sure how to adjust the audio volume from or on the keyboard? Or maybe they aren't working? The attachment is a "Sample" only it is not the exact layout I have. I assume these are finger touched controls? On another HP laptop you would hold down the fn and alt buttons and on the other side of the keyboard there are clearly marked keys with pg up and pg down with speaker icons on the keys as well.Perhaps for some strange reason the finger touch controls aren't working or disabled somehow. These are the illuminated speaker - and speaker + with bars in between them and next to that are what appears to be (rewind?) |<< > >>| (fast forward?) and then a small illuminated square. What am I missing please.Thank You in advance for your care, cooperation and attention to this matter.
Respectfully, Mr. Ralf

Hi:
Check chapter 3, page 3-3 of the Maintenance and Service Guide on your notebook's support page.
I'm thinking if the button board is bad, that you need the part labeled as #3.
Power button board (includes cable) HP Part # 516329-001
Did you try adjusting the volume up or down by pressing just where the speaker + or speaker - lights are on?
As to where you can find that part, I have no idea. I just checked the HP parts store link, and they don't sell it.

Hi:
In the illustration you posted, that item labeled as #4 is the volume up/down scroll zone.
Basically you slide your finger to the left to decrease the volume and to the right to increase the volume.
If that is not functioning, perhaps you need to install the quick launch software below...
This package contains the software that enables the HP Quick Launch Buttons, which are special function keys on HP Notebooks. This software works with supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Dear Friend, I downloaded and installed it, but there is no change. All the items are illuminated but they don't function and just sit there.
Do these need to be activated somewhere else QuickLaunch or something like that? It would seem that the drivers would be OK seeing we just installed this. Is there anything in the VCO that needs to be checked or changed? What about drivers and where?
Still dead in the water thus far..there seems to be a lot of issues with this and the fingerprint security.
Thanks again, Raphael

You're very welcome.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.
I have a HP 6930p business notebook with the same kind of audio volume adjustment and sliding my finger along the touch sensitive strip raises and lowers the volume.
I don't usually use that feature and prefer to adjust the sound volume in Windows by clicking on the speaker icon on the lower right side of the taskbar.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to answer that question either.
My HP business notebooks don't have scroll lights.
One of mine has a light that comes on when the touchpad is disabled (I found that out by mistake).

Thanks for your help and interest. sadly none of these things worked. I'm beginning to think it's the entire small board that houses all these features and sits above the row of "f" keys. The Volume slider as well as the FF, Play pause and Rewind are glowing, but they do absolutely nothing. Also the WiFi indicator is out and not glowing.
This is a known issue for many HP laptops with these features. Perhaps the engineers should take a little more time when they design these things and then market them.
Frankly, I'm tired and more than less fed up with this issue. Good night!
Respectfully, Ralph

The million dollar question is. Who can? There is little nada info on this anywhere...the youtube video(s) that I found were of a different model as in d7 not the exact model number though.
Do you have access to the exact part number for a replacement keyboard and a $reasonable$ source? that may be helpful...I doubt HP could supply a keyboard or the finger swipe board above the row of *f* keys we've been messing with?!? A user service type manual listing parts and exploded views and "how to's" replace things like a keyboard, etc... would be nice.
If you run across anything from anyone that is reliable...PLEEZE let us know.
Thank You!
Have a blessed day...
Best, Raphaello
