I have updated my AMD drivers through the website of AMD cause I couldn't play a game. After this my microphone completely stopped working! I have tried the AMD utility tool which deleted the driver (hopefully) but even after this my microphone isn't working. I have tried to update Realtek R driver through Device manager but this still doesn't fix my issue. I have tried downloading Driver booster, an app to reinstall drivers but this also didn't solve my issue. Any recommendations? I know this is my fault but I considered drivers from the website of AMD safe, but this isn't so.
This issue is also on both of my Pavilion computers. (played with both)

Hi @lilo1111,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your microphone after updating AMD drivers. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the problem.
1. Roll Back AMD Drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Locate your AMD graphics driver under "Display adapters."
- Right-click and select "Properties."
- Go to the "Driver" tab and click on "Roll Back Driver" if available.
- If the option is grayed out or not available, proceed to the next step.
2. Reinstall AMD Drivers:
- Download the latest AMD drivers from the official website.
- Run the installer and choose the option for a clean installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
3. Check Microphone Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under "Input," make sure the correct microphone is selected.
- Test your microphone to see if it's working.
4. Update Realtek Audio Driver:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
- Right-click on the Realtek audio device and choose "Update driver."
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
5. Check Microphone Hardware:
- Ensure that your microphone is properly connected to the correct port.
- Test your microphone on another device to ensure it's functioning correctly.
6. System Restore:
- If the issue persists, you may consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the driver update.
- Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar, select your system drive, and click "System Restore." Follow the on-screen instructions.
7. Windows Update:
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for driver-related issues.
8. Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:
- Visit the HP support website for your laptop model and check if there are any BIOS or UEFI updates available.
Remember to back up important data before performing significant system changes, such as a system restore. I hope one of these steps resolves your microphone issue!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
