Upgrade to Windows 11 was perfectly smooth and uneventful, and so far it seems to work well with one exception, and this issue has happened on this computer before I upgraded to Windows 11.
I have a Plugable docking station which I use to connect to dual monitors, speaker system and desktop microphone. When plugged into my docking station, all works well including sound and microphone.
However, when I am not connected to the docking station the computer correctly defaults to using the default audio device - Realtek HD Audio (SST), but at that point I have no audio and I assume the built-in microphone is also non-functional. I have downloaded the "latest" driver from Realtek (6.0.8940.1 dated 22-Apr-2020) which Device Manager says is "working properly".
This suggests a fault with the Realtek drivers, since the Plugable drivers work just fine.
As I said at the outset, this lack of function with the Realtek audio is not new, and has happened before I upgraded to Windows 11. I just can't remember what sequence of trial and error fixes resulted in a solution, but I do recall that restarting 3 services (Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) worked before - restarting these services doesn't work now)
Anyone else have this issue, or know how to resolve it.
