HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-ch0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

New HP laptop 17" envy with Win 11 installed.

I routinely use two audio input devices, one wireless headset (LOGI) the other a USB A RODE MIC/headset combination. (vacillating between tasks during the work day)

With my HP desktop win ten updated to 11) or my older HP win 10 laptop I am able to plug both in and then switch the device in the "sound" short cut on the task bar easily and seamlessly.

However with this new laptop, the second audio device plugged in is "Seen" by the computer, but any attempts to make it default, use or test it fails. We have tried via system sound properties, and viewing  all the input devices  to test/monitor input (system-sound-more sound settings-recording/playback tab) shows the devices but unable to switch, no sound or mic sound detection happens.  Drivers checked and current.

You can unplug the first audio device, leaving only the second but to no avail, the only way to "fix" (IMO free up/unfreeze device/port)  is to reboot the computer for the "other" device to be registered and usable. Imagine having to switch between tasks several times a day and having to reboot each time. Not acceptable, particularly since my other HP machines WILL switch

6 hours on the phone with HP tech, finally having them agree to return it and fix it under warranty , comes back yet I still cannot switch between devices. The ONLY change is I can unplug one device, wait a moment, plug in the other and it will register and work. There's no real "Freeze" that a reboot fixes.

With my work and switching between tasks multiple times a day this is not acceptable.

I am being told to buy a docking station, I've tried a mini doc, but the quality of the recorded audio, or wireless headset is reduced immensely and no one can confirm a "Docking station is any better".

Not to mention, if you purchase a brand new (expensive) machine (it says base model but I configured it /upgraded some specs) you want it to work as expected IE: As previous HP machines have worked before. IMO it's like buying a car with cruise control , it doesn't work and the mechanic says "well just have Burt here push the pedals for you".

It was also suggested to me that "that's how it is supposed to be" or some language like that.  To which I said, then why has HP spent 6 hours on the phone with me, troubleshooting. Do you have something in your documentation that will tell you SURE that's how it is? I asked for back up to show me, "that is how it is" no one can tell me, give me that information.

When I ask "then why does my older machines switch and this doesn't? They don't know.

I'm willing to accept (begrudgingly and avowing never to buy another HP ) that HP configured their new machines in such a way that  switching between audio devices plugged into USB A ports is not possible and was a purposely done design element of the envy series. If I can get someone at HP with some sort of authority confirm that for me in writing, I'll stop trying to get this machine "FIXED".

How do we get in touch with the team who developed this machine, to confirm or deny this anomaly? How do I get this issue BUMPED UP? I'm already in touch with an escalation manager, but having a bit of difficulty reaching hm after the laptop came back from repair. How do we go higher up the resolution chain?

Thanks for your input and help!
