HP Laptop 15-bs1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good evening,

My issue is a quirky one. I have a HP notebook 15-bs1xx, equipped with Windows 10 x64-bit. I bought from a store, with the windows pre-installed, and all the drivers in place. The audio was awesome, smooth with beautifully deep basses. After the windows 10 fall update, I also got the audio-issue. As I am a noob, I did not check the device manager immediatelly, but found the audio drivers in the HP support site. I downloaded the HP 15-bs100 series drivers, and installed all of them...now I the Realtek High-Definition Audio (SST) device, but the sound is, as expected, completely different. The realtek image in the taskbar menu seems old and out-of-date, but the driver update shows me that it's the latest version. Additionally, when I plug the headphones in the sound comes out from both...so the question is the following.

How can I restore my baby back to its old prime?

P.S.

The driver I downloaded was for the 1803 version, released in 06/27/18 i think.

I followed a slightly different approach, but based on your instructions. I removed the sound driver, but that did not fix the problem. Instead I looked at another post and downloaded the intel high definition sound driver sp89052. By installing this little guy, my computer works perfectly like before.

Good morning. That probably due to Windows updates. Re-install driver should help. Please try

(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

    https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp88001-88500/sp88302.exe

(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.

Regards.

@Manufrahman

Here is the driver's (Intel HD Sound) link,  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp89001-89500/sp89052.exe

But since I don't know what kind of pc you are using, just in case, before installing it check the following:

1. Go to the "Software and Drivers" from the Support menu.

2. Search by using your PC information the drivers. For example if you have a 15-bs1xx it is the 15-bs100 series drivers.

3. The PC information can be displayed by pressing the ESC+FN, but to make sure check it online if this is the right combination.

4. When you have found the drivers, browse them and find the Intel High Definition Audio Driver, download it.

Then uninstall the old driver from the Device Manager, I don't remember if I rebooted, but in most forums they recommend to reboot. After rebooting, install the driver you downloaded, follow the installation wizard's steps, and then reboot. After the second reboot, the wizard opens again, it completes the installation and it asks to reboot again. At last, after the third reboot, your sound should be back to normal.

At least this was the solution for my case. Please, inform us if this approach helped in any way.

Best regards and good luck!

P.S.

If you manage to solve your problem, I highly recommend to disable the Windows Update's automatic start. Check some internet forums for the healthy way to do it 🙂
