Troubleshooting Audio Issues and headphone jack

Check Volume Levels with that task bar icon, and it says that the volume is set to 60%

General is set to allow apps and windows to use device for audio.

Microphone test= can hear but not that good as the speakers are muffled under the laptop, but the volume is set too high.

All HP drivers have been re-installed

Windows update up to date

Sound and audio have been checked with both Windows troubleshooter and the HP troubleshooter program

I have also tried different headphones for possible connection jack problems, and so I am not sure if there is anything else to test

BIOS    F30 UPDATED

Hi @GlennMc777,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing audio issues with the headphone jack on your HP laptop, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check Volume Levels: Ensure the volume level is appropriately set using the taskbar volume icon. Since your volume is already at 60%, this step is more about confirmation.

Audio Device Configuration:

  • Open the Sound settings to confirm that the correct audio device is set as the default.
  • Navigate to Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab to ensure that headphones are set as the default device when plugged in.

Examine Physical Connections:

  • Make sure the headphone jack is fully inserted.
  • Try a different pair of headphones to rule out any potential issues with the current pair.

Microphone and Speakers Configuration:

  • Your description suggests that internal speakers may be muffled. For best performance, ensure nothing is obstructing the speaker output on the laptop.
  • Perform a microphone test using Control Panel > Sound > Recording tab. Highlight the microphone and click "Configure" to set up the microphone and "Properties" for advanced settings.

Driver Check:

Windows Sound Enhancements:

  • Disable sound enhancements by going to Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab. Right-click on your playback device, select "Properties," navigate to the "Enhancements" tab, and check "Disable all enhancements."

HP Diagnostics Tool:

  • Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool for an audio test. This can help distinguish between hardware and software issues. Restart your device and press F2 at startup. Navigate to "Component Tests" > "Audio."

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Go through the Windows Troubleshooter for audio issues; search for "Troubleshoot audio" in the Windows search bar and follow the prompts.
  • If applicable, check any proprietary audio software installed (like Bang & Olufsen or Realtek Audio Manager) for additional settings or enhancements that might affect audio performance.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Nothing that I did worked at all, I did a restore with one drive and the sound worked for about a day buy the sound was very weak, I even had the volume turned all the way up on everything from the sound bat icon to the sound adjustment in the control penal. Even the movie that I tested it out on had all the settings maxed out like sound, I know that the movie has sound because I watched the movie on another computer. I tried two headphones and no sound but bother work on the other PC, my next step might have to be to do a full format and a re-install with the HP recovery program.
