Hi!

I am trying to record sound into my computer by plugging in an exernal audio device into the single 3.5mm port, however when I plug in the external device to this port, I do not hear any sound. So I am wondering if this laptop even has this capability. The specifications state that this is a "headphone/microphone combo" (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05530679).

Also, I have looked up several tutorials on recording sound input and it seems like I need to have a "Line In" option in the "Sound" control panel, under "Recording" tab. I do not have this. All I have available are "Microphone Array" and "Stereo Mix".

Can someone please help me figure out how to get sound input to this laptop.
Thanks in advance!

The specs of your machine is

    https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05530679

It does NOT have any port called Line-In. If you wish to use line-in to record, you need a sound card using USB with Line in. For example (some of them):
