I followed this fix and deleted the noted update.  The sound and Netflix began working immediately!  Thanks so much.....and yes ensure you do Step 2.  Windows automatically looked for updates upon restart and scheduled the noted update I just deleted to be reinstalled.  Its now hidden

FYI.  I got my HP ENVY back on Thursday from the repair shop for the second time.  I made sure to tripple check to make sure the update did not install.  I believe microsoft took it down because I did not see it.  Despite not installing that update, my sound is dead right now, it took me over 5 hours to get it connected to my homegroup and it will not connect to my wifi printer.  I'm officially DONE with HP.  this computer has been nothing but a headache from day 1.  later!

That sounds annoying! The fix worked for me and if MS did remove the update' it was only very recently as I had to manually "deselect" it only 3 days ago. I have now had 3 days with MS updates and sound. 🙂 before I ran without the update at all and it was fine. Finally decided that I could try with the other updates minus the problem and voila!
It is a little tricky to find, but check your optional updates and even if there are lots of them be sure to look. I hope you get your problem fixed and who knows your fix may be a new laptop, but at any rate this worked for me. Good luck!

Hello nelsta8,

That's a hardware issue, or a BIOS error. I would call HP phone support. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

Same issue on HP Envy DV7-7252SR.

On Saturday  02.08.2014  had made system restore using available automatic  restore point from 15.07.2014

As result no issues with audio already for two days

Only today found in a forum that issue could be  because of KB2962407.

I checked  Installed updates list and KB2962407 is missing, but can find it in  Updates history list installed 19.07.2014.

Also KB2962407 present in not installed yet updates.

So I moved  KB2962407 to hidden updates and turn on automatic updates.

Girl , owner of  HP Envy DV7-7252SR, is happy now  !!!!

Thank you so much for this diligent answer..  It work 100%  (may be a workaround, but works)

Uninstalling the Windows Update, then hiding it, is the only method of eliminating the issue if it caused by this update. Here is the procedure for uninstalling the update:

Step1:

1. Go into Control Panel, then click on “Programs and Features”.

2. Click on “View Installed Updates”. Look for the update with the ID number KB2962407.

3. Right-click on the update and select “Uninstall”. Restart the computer.

Step 2: Next, here is the procedure for hiding the update:

1. Go into Control Panel, then click on “Windows Updates”.

2. Click on “Check for Updates”. When the process is completed, is should find important update(s) available. Clicking on the message will open a window where the important update(s) is.

3. Right-click on the KB2962407 update and select “Hide Update”. This will prevent the update from being installed next time Windows Updates are being installed.

This worked!  Thank you so much!  I'd been without sound (or with sound for only 5-10 minutes at a time) for about 2.5 weeks and it was annoying and disheartening.  No longer!  I'm curious, do you know why this this happens in Windows 8?  Does Windows 8.1 fix this, to your knowledge?  Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I have been dealing with this problem for so long. Like the others I bought this computer not too long ago and everything was great until this began to happen. But what you said worked out, my sound came back immediately! Thank you, even if it is just a temporary fix! :generic:

UPDATE:  I just noticed that in the latest MS update they have re-issued KB2962407 as of 12 August 2014 as an Important Update!

When I uninstalled last time it appeared as Optional, but now as Important!

Does anyone dare to install this update this time around and see if the problems still occur?

I am going the high road and hiding the update, but I would be interested to hear if they solved this issue finally.
