Hello. My Bang & Olufsen speakers aren't working properly lately. Recently the audio only plays from the large speaker on the bottom, and not from the two rectangular speakers on the top of my laptop. It is difficult to know when this changed, since the audio sounds relatively normal when it is on a hard surface.
After realizing this (my laptop was on my lap and it became apparent), I updated windows and updated the audio drivers. I am unsure what next steps to take! Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @kyle_orth,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the audio from your Bang & Olufsen speakers on your laptop is primarily coming out of the bottom speaker instead of the top speakers. This can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Audio Settings
Windows Audio Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under "Choose your output device," ensure that the correct speakers (e.g., Bang & Olufsen) are selected as the default playback device.
Bang & Olufsen Audio Control Panel:
- Some laptops with Bang & Olufsen audio systems have their own control panel or app. Look for any settings related to speaker balance or output configuration.
- Ensure that the balance settings are not skewed towards the bottom speaker.
2. Physical Inspection
- Inspect the speaker grilles on the top of your laptop. Sometimes dust or debris can accumulate and affect sound output. Gently clean the grilles using compressed air or a soft brush.
- Ensure that there are no physical obstructions blocking the top speakers.
- Check if the speakers are properly connected internally (though this usually requires professional inspection).
3. Update Audio Drivers
- Open Device Manager (right-click on Start and select Device Manager).Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
- Right-click on your audio device and select "Update driver."Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
- Visit the HP website of your laptop and look for the latest audio drivers specifically designed for your model.
- Download and install the latest drivers, as they may include fixes for audio issues.
4. Perform a System Restart
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches affecting audio output.
5. Run Audio Troubleshooter
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Run the "Playing Audio" troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix common audio playback problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
