Linux

I have installed Linux Mint 21.1 alongside Windows for my job, however I cannot get the audio to work. After I did some digging, I found that the default kernel does not come with the proper drivers for audio and wifi, therefore I upgraded to the newer 6.2 version. Audio output, however, still does not work.

With the command dmesg, I managed to figure out why I'm not getting audio. It seems like the amplifier is unable to be initialized by the kernel because of missing ACPI. Here is an excerpt from the terminal:

[ 5.794011] cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: Error: ACPI _DSD Properties are missing for HID CSC3551.

[ 5.794021] cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: error -EINVAL: Platform not supported

[ 5.794039] cs35l41-hda: probe of i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0 failed with error -22

[ 5.794142] cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1: Error: ACPI _DSD Properties are missing for HID CSC3551.

[ 5.794145] cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1: error -EINVAL: Platform not supported

[ 5.794156] cs35l41-hda: probe of i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.1 failed with error -22

So it seems that the configuration data needed for the audio amplifier is missing, and prevents the amplifier from being initialized by the kernel. I believe this is a BIOS problem and hope that the HP engineers can fix this. I have read multiple forums where others have the same issue with the same amplifier in Linux, even though it works fine in Windows.

I have the same issue with my laptop, HP ENVY 17.3 Laptop PC 17-cr0000 Base Model.  Same issue with the onboard speakers.  Headphones work with USB, but Bluetooth, HDMI, and speakers do not.  I installed latest System BIOS available on the support page (April 2023) but that didn't fix the issue.  Please update the BIOS with the appropriate entries.

Thank you.
