So..

First of all, I bought this laptop about 4 weeks ago. So once i started the laptop up for the first time the problem was already there. Once you play audio you hear a (not very loud, but very irritating) klciking sound from the left side of the speak grill. It only happens when you play the sound than stop it and play it again. So once the audio is playing the sound is good. However, when you have intervals of no sound for example a skype conversation, every time the speaker makes a sound you hear the clicking sound. ( for example play a song, pause it, play it again) that is when you really hear it the most. Also while watching videos or playing sound, it almost sounds like the video card is beeping at a very high pitch, but since this only happens while playing sound or video's on youtube it is very strange, once i stop playing the video the high pitch beeps from either the videocard or the speak dissapears.

So ofcourse I already looked at different forums. I installed audio drivers, reinstalled the bios driver, also updated the grpahics card driver. Tried a lot of things, and nothing helps. I really dont wish to send my product back already after 4 weeks of having it, since i really enjoy the laptop. It is also not a very big problem, but it deffintaly is there. And for the price i paid for this laptop I really dont want it to be there, even though it might seems as a small isue.

PS. The ticking sound, when play and pausing a video, is also there when I plug in a headphone, but you still hear it from the speaker of the laptop, NOT from the hearphones.

Kind Regards, Mathijs

Hi @MathijsG,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with audio from the left speaker grill. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:

  • When you play an audio track, stop and then play again, does it always happen?

It looks like a hardware issue with the left speaker as the headset does not make the ticking sound.

  • To isolate the issue further try to connect external speakers to the audio port of the computer and check if the issue can be replicated. (If that is possible)
  • If the external spears don’t make this ticking noise then the issue is clearly with the internal left speaker that needs to be replaced.

If it is possible, you could send the computer in for service when at your convenience before the warranty ends to get it replaced by contacting HP phone support.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
