The speakers on my laptop have stopped making sound. It worked on 6th January and didn't on 7th. I have run the HP audio diagnostic tool; it finds no issue. I have deleted the driver and still no sound. Headphones work. Looking at the event viewer some kind of reconfiguration of "Device manager -- realtek audio" (presumably automatic) took place the evening before the audio stopped working.
Any ideas what to do next?

Thank you! I admit I tried solutions in reverse order of scariness -- option 2 didn't work so I skipped the bios update (after bitlocker recovery warnings scared me off) and just installed your linked driver. That worked. Thanks!
