So I've had my HP laptop for about four-five weeks now because I needed a laptop for school, but I started having some audio issues. The speakers on my laptop started making cracks and pop noises every now and then, and then when I would play audio instead of actually playing the audio it would play very loud screeches and whines. I really don't understand why this is happening because it only happens on youtube every now and then and I don't think my speakers are blown because I don't play music extremely loud or anything. But when I think about it the problem only occurs when youtube is open because I attend zoom meetings, play recorded lectures, use Spotify, and a lot of other websites and applications but the problem only occurs when I watch youtube.

Force shutting isn't recommended as it may damage the OS, however, it will not blow anything up as such (somebody's watching too many movies 😛 ) and two: the backup is always a good idea, and lastly, if you wish to get it repaired, get it done via HP.

Keep us posted for further assistance.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio when watching YouTube.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What browser do you use to play YouTube?

Have you checked with different browsers?

Meanwhile, I recommend you run the audio troubleshooter and it will automatically detect and fix all the audio related issues.

Here is how it is done.

- Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in Windows search.

 - Click on "Playing Audio".

 - Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you continue facing the issue, then uninstall the audio driver from device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104268.exe

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for responding and please excuse me for the very late reply, I have been busy with school and haven't gotten around to trying to solve this very irritating problem.

Before coming here I did do the troubleshoot audio and I'm not sure whether the audio that played was supposed to sound like a very high pitch ring or something else, but it sounded like the high pitched noises that are produced randomly so I more or less tricked it into updating the drivers by lying and saying I didn't there the noise. I seemed to have worked for a little bit but then one morning my audio wasn't working at all and I went into the sound settings where you can change where the audio is produced and my built-in speakers are called "Speaker Realtek(R) Audio but when I checked they were called something like high definition speakers. So that was confusing me but then it fixed itself somehow which made me even more confused. The browser I'm using is google chrome but it would appear that the noise is happening even when I'm not on youtube specifically, but no I have not tried using different browsers. The noise isn't produced when I use headphones so I'm ok with doing that but I'm not in favor of it.

I haven't had any audio issues in the past few days but today I had just ended a zoom meeting and right as the tab closed the high pitched noise starts up and I force my pc off by holding the power button. But this is when I got really scared because every time I went to power it one it starts up making the noise and I kept powering it off. So my sister said power it on, don't bother with the noise and just restart it, so I power it on, she muffles the speakers with her sleeves, and it stopped after a few seconds and I got to restart my laptop. Afterward, when it powered on I immediately muted my laptop and turned the volume all the way down, and here we are, responding to your answer.

I will definitely uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers to see if that helps the problem, after I do so I doubt we will know for sure if we solved this problem or not, and if this doesn't work what would be the next step? I have a few different questions, so first off, is force shutting my pc off harmful in any way to my pc because I don't want to bear the noise and risk my speakers blowing. Two, should I backup my pc to my external hard drive just in case something were to go wrong. And lastly, would send my pc in to have it repaired be the best option.

I will try and troubleshoot the audio and try and follow your directions but I would want to try and do so after I've heard your opinion on my questions. I really appreciate your taking your time and sending me this helpful information and once again I am very sorry for the very delayed reply to this thread.

Ok thank you, I just feared that keeping the high pitch noises may damage the speaker but it's true it wouldn't blow out, probably the only thing that can blow out the speakers would be a surge of power, but that would also blow out a lot more components. I will try and back up my laptop as soon as possible but I would need to find the time when I'm not using it for school.

Thank you for your response I greatly appreciate it and I probably shouldn't have pushed accepted solution, that's on me, I was trying to hit the thumbs up.

Once again thank you for all your assistance, especially The_Fossette, so I went to the device manager, and under audio inputs and outputs, I found I have two speaker drivers or devices, one is called Speaker (Realtek(R) Audio) and another one called Stereo Mix (Realtek(R) Audio) and I'm wondering why I have two when in my sound settings the only one that appears is the Speaker (Realtek (R) Audio) and not the other. Are they perhaps two drivers for the same speaker?

When I think back, I remember early in a previous reply I stated that one day my speakers weren't producing audio because a different speaker system was selected, one that I hadn't seen before, but I couldn't remember the name of. Well after looking at the drivers in the device manager the speaker selected on that day was the Stereo Mix Realtek(R) Audio), so could this driver or device be the fault in my laptop.

I'm not trying to jump to any conclusion or say that I'm right, so if I'm wrong please do correct me, plus I am the one coming to you kind people for assistance :).
