HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have my laptop on the lowest volume setting of 2 and the speakers are still extremely loud. I watched old things and they are still a lot louder at the same volume.

Also, my microphone button is no longer working. My computer says no sound input device exists.

Hi @dmeah96,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with the volume and microphone on your HP Spectre X360, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

Volume Issues:

  1. Check Audio Settings:

    • Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings" or go to "Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound."
    • Ensure that the correct playback device is selected.
    • Click on "Device properties" and make sure the volume is set to an appropriate level.
  2. Update Audio Drivers:

    • Go to the Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
    • Find the "Sound, video and game controllers" section, right-click on your audio device, and select "Update driver."
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
  3. Reinstall Audio Drivers:

    • In the Device Manager, right-click on your audio device and select "Uninstall device."
    • After uninstalling, restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

Microphone Issues:

  1. Check Microphone Settings:

    • Open Sound settings (as mentioned above) and ensure the correct input device (microphone) is selected.
    • Check the microphone properties and adjust the levels.
  2. Update Microphone Drivers:

    • Follow similar steps as updating audio drivers, but this time, focus on the microphone in the Device Manager.
  3. Check Physical Connections:

    • If you are using an external microphone, check the connection to make sure it's properly plugged in.
  4. Run Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Go to "Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot."
    • Run the troubleshooter for "Playing Audio" and "Recording Audio."
  5. System Restore:

    • If the issues started recently, you can try restoring your system to a point where the audio and microphone were working correctly.

Additional Steps:

  1. BIOS Update:

    • Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve hardware-related issues.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, there may be a hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

My device does not even detect an input audio device.
