HP EliteBook 8470p Base Model Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP EliteBook 8470p running Windows 10 . My analogue (headphone) feed from amplifier to audio  jack "line In (microphone)" on right side of laptop next to "Line out"is not detected by operating system nor Audacity. All hardware tests shown no problems; 'Recording troubleshooter' finds no issue. I have tried switching  Device Manager /audio inputs and outputs /microphone High Definition Audio Device) from enabled to disabled and back again - interestingly it makes no difference to onboard microphone feed to Audacity which just stays on throughout, inspite of  reboot. Any ideas how to get an audio feed in

working so I can record from sound system and then convert to digital files?

You can use an adapter or USB sound card. There are many around such as

Creative Sound BlasterX G1 7.1 USB Sound Card

Port #2 is for a stand alone microphone, it is NOT a normal line in therefore normal line out from other device WON'T work.  You can plug a normal SINGLE/MONO 3.5mm microphone to it.

Many thanks for reply. As there is no other audio line in, how can II link my hi fi amplifier to my computor to convert analogue input into  digital files? Would you recomend a DAC?
