Hi, I am having trouble with audio on my laptop.

I've recently updated to Windows 10 version 19041 and am not receiving any audio. I have downloaded and installed the most recent audio and graphics drivers in the hope that it would work, but none have.

My laptop is new and was purchased this year, so it is quite disappointing to encounter problems this early. In the device manager it says that all of my audio devices are working correctly. My device has Realtek(R) speakers and uses AMD Radeon graphics

My installed device drivers appear as follows:

  • AMD High Definition Audio Device
  • Realtek(R) Audio

My audio inputs and outputs:

  • Microphone Array (Realtek(R) Audio)
  • Speaker (Realtek(R) Audio)
  • Stereo Mix (Realtek(R) Audio)

I was told that the audio drivers and graphics drivers were pretty closely linked (as the HDMI port is used to transfer both audio and video) - so I am confused as to whether the graphic drivers are also a part of the problem.

I've noticed that this update is new, so there are not any specific drivers for this version yet, but I have been waiting for months and HP have not seemed to address this issue by releasing new drivers.

Do I need to wait for HP to release new drivers for this update or is there something I can do about this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the audio on the computer after upgrading the operating system to the latest version of Windows.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you run the audio troubleshooter and it will automatically find and fix the audio issues.

Here is how it is done.

  - Launch Troubleshooting by typing and clicking “Troubleshooting” in Windows search.

  - Click on "Playing Audio".

  - Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you continue facing the issue, then uninstall the audio driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi, thank you for your feedback. I have run through all your solutions. I did the audio troubleshoot which I have already done a fair few times and the problems come up as "Audio services not responding". I have been through the services.msc and made sure all the appropriate services are running etc etc.

This didn't solve it, so I uninstalled my audio driver and then installed the one you sent me (the latest version). I have done this a few times already, and it did not fix the issue.

Thank you very much for your reply, would you possibly have anymore solutions for me to try? I would really like my sound back as it has been a while since this started happening.

Thank you so much,

Archie

- P.S. Are you sure that this latest driver works for this version of windows? As on the HP website no version details are listed under it. It could be possibly that I’m still waiting for the right driver to be released from HP?

Hi,

I had similar issues on my ENVY 13 after a Windows update and lost all audio.

I tried reinstalling the drivers and even followed HPs audio trouble shooter but nothing resolved the issue.

What I did in the end was reset the laptop i.e. via the Windows recovery settings, and audio returned and has been fine since.

Might be worth a try?

Hi, thanks for you comment 🙂

Yeah it’s a really strange issue, the thing is I bought my computer from a manufacturer and they set up my computer with all the applications and system security, so I don’t really know much about how to go about this and not lose all of my files and things.

I’m sure it would be fine though, it’s just I would definitely like this to be a last resort, as if it doesn’t work it’s a lot of work for nothing.

Thank you so much for your comment though, I will keep it in mind and ask the manufacturing company about it if they have no other suggestions to fix the issue

Thank you,

Archie

I recommend you perform a system restore back to the date when the audio was working fine.
