HP ProBook 650 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I purchased my HP ProBook 650 G5 a few months ago, and it has been working fine, except for one very annoying thing ... the recording quality of the built-in microphone is absolutely unacceptable. When I record, the result is a hollow sound, which breaks up intermittently etc. If I record someone's voice, there is no way of understanding what this person is saying.

This is very annoying, as I regularly use my laptop to record teaching sessions. I bought the new laptop to have a recent device to help me in class, but it fails on one of the most essential functions that I need there.

I have already searched through HP Support, I have Googled, I have tried just about anything I can think of. It is not a driver issue, all the settings are right ... the sound is just total rubbish.

For practical reasons, an external microphone is not an option ... and why should it be? My previous HP notebook had a perfectly functioning microphone.

I hope someone has run into this problem already and has managed to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Lenny

I had this problem and finally bought a clip on mic for $25.00 that just attached to the laptop screen on the computer. It was unobtrusive and the only way to solve it for me, but it was an acceptable solution. You do need to change the recording input for sound to make it operate properly.
