Pavilion Power 15 cb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have bought this laptop last week and i discovered the following issue a few days later.

When using a headphone and playing a video on youtube or starting a song on spotify the sound will be muted the first 2 seconds. after that it works fine untill some time without audio has passed.

No problems so far with the internal speaker.

This seems only to apply when i use the Realtek High Definition audio drivers. (the default driver that was preinstalled.)

I tried with using Microsoft driver (High Definition Audio Device) and it seems to have fixed it. but now the sound crackles and even more when the latency's are increasing.

So that isnt an option either because i use sound (and video) for my work as video editor.

I am wondering if this is a software or hardware related issue.

When its hardware i need to get this repaired ASAP, and when its software related i would like to see a patch for this problem,

Also i have had some random freezes, I dont know if its related to the drivers i use now.

What i discovered too is when using the Microsoft driver (High Definition Audio Device) drivers the F6/Mute button led will not light up (orange) when the audio is muted.

I really like this laptop and i would not like to replace it with a different one.

I hope to hear from the HP Support team soon

Greets, Michael

EDIT: I see a lot of posts with problems like mine with this type of laptop and i start to get worried. I hope this gets fixed soon.

You should edit the values to the following:

ConservationIdleTime = ff ff ff ff;
IdlePowerState = 00 00 00 00;
PerformanceIdleTime = ff ff ff ff.

Hello MHubregtse,

Do you perhaps have B&O control panel?

I would recommend disabling the listening experience that is found in the control panel.

Otherwise (assuming you're running Windows 10 v1709), I would recommend this audio driver:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82501-83000/sp82571.exe

Eddy

Thanks Eddy for your fast reply

I used sp82571.exe to uninstall the driver, reboot, install the driver, reboot.

Unfortunately the problem still occurs.

I also have still the B&O control panel installed. but it will not open.

EDIT: It will open again. my bad 😛 The experience was already disabled.

The temporary solution from this thread has fixed the problem for me:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/System-Sound-Delay/m-p/6508198#M91186

It basically keeps the driver always active, instead of going to idle mode after 10 seconds

I tried this temporary solution, But when i edit the register and reboot, the settings are gone!

Hmm that's weird..

Are you sure that you're editing the values of the Realtek Powersetting and not those of another entry?

When you click the "main" xxxx number folders  it should have an entry that says DriverDesc value 'Realtek High Definition Audio'.

HP Recommended

For me the Realtek driver registry entry is the following:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0008

The powersettings are all at: 00 00 00 00

And it is still happening...

EDIT: After reboot it is on A0 00 00 00

How can i prevent it from getting to the default values?

HP Recommended

You should edit the values to the following:

ConservationIdleTime = ff ff ff ff;
IdlePowerState = 00 00 00 00;
PerformanceIdleTime = ff ff ff ff.
