I purchased a new laptop 2 weeks ago. After some minor issues (one still not solved, about ASCII code with ALT+code where I cannot use CTRL+C and CTRL+V), I noticed the fan speed up and keep making noise like it was doing heavy loads even when I was simply opening computer folders. Then I checked the task manager and found that audiobg.exe was using my cpu quite a lot. Then I started searching for a solution on web, but nothing solving my issue. I already tried even reinstalling Windows 10 from the Recovery partition.
Yesterday I found audiobg.exe loading the cpu after leaving the laptop on idle for an hour. I tweak through the audio settings and after I disabled the microphone (not the speaker, tried before but without any effect), suddenly audiobg.exe return to 0%.
I tried everything, even reinstalling Windows 10 and all drivers. I use my laptop for studying (I'm learning C, F#, Java and some other staff), but with I cannot use it like that, when I need cpu power. Thanks

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Firstly, let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
- To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon
.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
- Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
- Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
- Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also, run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
To minimize the effect of audiodg.exe on your system, you can try the following method.
· Right-click on the speaker icon on the bottom right corner of the screen.
· Select Playback Devices.
· Look for the icon with the green check mark.
· Highlight the icon.
· Click Properties and then click on the Enhancements tab.
· Check the “Disable All Enhancements” checkbox.

I followed all the steps: I checked for updates in Windows 10, then I reinstalled HP support assistant and checked for driver updates. I found only an update for the synaptics touchpad and a bios update (F.16 Rev.A, Apr 17, 2019).
After bios update I checked audio devices but I don't have any Enhancements tab (in any audio device properties).
I still have the issue. The lapstop can't last over 4-5 hours on battery.

Recommendations for battery usage and storage are included in the user guide for your computer.
-
Store batteries between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F) with 80 - 90% charge.
-
Do not disassemble, crush, or puncture a battery, and do not short the external contacts on a battery.
WARNING: Keep batteries away from children. Batteries can be a choking and poison hazard.
-
Do not leave batteries exposed to elevated temperatures for extended periods. Prolonged exposure to heat (inside a hot car, for example) accelerates the deterioration of battery cells.
-
Long term battery storage:
-
Charge or discharge the battery to 80 - 90%.
-
Place the notebook into ship mode per your user guide. Refer to your notebook user guide to determine if your computer supports this feature.
-
Check the battery charge every three months. If the battery charge falls below 50%, charge the battery to 80 - 90%, and then repeat the steps in the user guide to put the computer back into ship mode.
NOTE: For the steps to put a business computer into ship mode, go to the Battery storage recommendations section in this document.
-
-
For best performance, use only the battery provided with the computer, a replacement battery provided by HP, or a compatible battery purchased as an accessory. If you have a choice of battery types to use with your computer, use the type of battery with the highest capacity rating.
-
To maintain the battery, run Battery Check using HP Support Assistant. Under normal usage, batteries should be calibrated a minimum of once every two to three months. However, a battery that is rarely discharged fully should be calibrated about once a month.
Go to HP Support Assistant to download and install the software. Run the test, and then calibrate the battery based on the results.
For more information, go to Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows) for detailed steps.
And, also I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to Remote into your computer and sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The battery is ok. I already made 3 full charge-discharge cycles to make sure that it's calibrated (as the phone support suggested me). The few times audiobg.exe doesn't load on cpu I can get the battery at 85%-90% after 2 hours of usage (notepad++, atom, dev-c++,firefox,sumatrapdf). I notice it only when I load the cpu with stuff (for example launching firefox takes few more seconds). Most of the time the bootleneck is the 8gb of ram (not enough to compile/debug and stay with 5-10 firefox open tabs).

- Does it happen only with the Firefox browser?
- Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox browser?
Keep me posted for further assistance.

I already called the HP support and they told my to contact Microsoft support because audiobg.exe is an operating system's process and they can't do anything about it. When I called Microsoft support, they told me to write in the community forum. I already got a replied, with a link to a guide to follow step by step.
When I'll have some time, I'll try and see if it's solves the issue or not.
