I've seen that this topic has already been posted here more than once, but I can't see that it has ever been solved.

My laptop is 6 months old and is working very well, but today I wanted to check the audio settings and was unable to open the B&O app from Start. I received the message "B&O cannot connect to RPC server".  I have done Windows updates, uninstalled and reinstalled all audio drivers, and have even updated the BIOS, but none of this has made any difference. About the only thing I haven't tried is to uninstall and reinstall B&O. Is that a viable option? Any other ideas?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

To get the answer to this question, B&O software is outdated and replaced with the Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver (Windows 10 v1909)

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-17-ce0000-laptop-pc-series/260847... to download the new audio driver for your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Many thanks for your reply, Echo_Lake. I have already tried this solution; it does work for a while, but then the B&O audio control app won't open any more, and I get the 'B&O cannot connect to RPC server' message. If I reinstall the latest Realtek drivers, the problem is revolved again, but only for a short time.

I've seen that my version of the B&O app is 1.8.203.0, whereas I've been told that the latest version is 1.9.212.0 ; it doesn't update automatically when I update the Realtek drivers, and I cannot find a way of updating it manually. Do you know how to do this? I am sure that this is the only way of solving the problem.

Thank you for posting back.

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
