THe bluetooth audio connection to any earbuds keeps dropping and is very garbled when it is connected.  I have restarted the laptop, checked for windows updates, and updated the bluetooth driver

Same problem here.

I've a HP EliteBook 845 G8 Notebook PC

I've been trying with updating drivers, uninstalling drivers, disabling some options in drivers, etc.

There is no way I can make it work.

The only solution I found is using Jabra Link 380 for connecting bluetooth headsets, but it does not work with non-Jabra bluetooth headsets.

How to reproduce driver problem: When I use bluetooth audio with microphone in teams or open the menu below

Settings >> Bluetooth & devices >> Devices >> More devices and printer settings

Mouse left button on bluetooth sound device >> Sound settings
Open "Recording" tab

And sound changes completely. It starts having noise, looses clarity, etc.

If I close the window, it comes back.

If I choose a different application window sometimes it comes back too.

Try a repair with the HP Image Assistant (HPIA).

I bought this USB BT dongle for about 5€ in Alibaba store:

Kebidiu Electronic Store - LJW000383

Then I disabled the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Bluetooth Adapter.

And windows detected the new one as Realtek Bluetooth 5.4 Adapter.

And it works like a charm!!
