I'm having a persistent problem with my HP laptop where the sound won't play through any Bluetooth headphones, even though the laptop says they're connected, and the controls on the headphones (like pause/play) still work. The headphones never appear in the list of sound devices I can select. On top of that, the touchscreen feature on my laptop has completely stopped working, and none of the basic fixes for either issue have helped. I think there's a big, underlying problem with the laptop's sound and input hardware systems that's affecting both functions.

Hi @Minko_T,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can understand how frustrating this is; losing both Bluetooth audio and touchscreen functionality feels like your laptop is slowly shutting down its senses. Since both issues involve input/output hardware layers, it’s likely a deeper driver or system-level problem rather than just a simple setting.

Step 1: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly → F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run:
    • Component Test → Audio
    • Component Test → Touchscreen
  • If either fails, it confirms a hardware fault.

Step 2: Check Device Manager

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  • Under Bluetooth, ensure your adapter is listed and enabled.
  • Under Human Interface Devices, check for HID-compliant touchscreen
    • If missing, that’s why touch isn’t working.
  • If you see yellow warning icons, right-click → Update driver.

Step 3: Update Drivers & BIOS

  • Go to your model’s HP driver page: 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Update:
    • Bluetooth driver
    • Audio driver
    • Touchscreen driver
    • BIOS
  • Restart after updates.

Step 4: Reset Bluetooth Audio Settings

  • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Audio.
  • Remove your headphones → Re-pair them.
  • Then check Sound Settings → Output device.
  • If headphones still don’t appear, run Windows Bluetooth Troubleshooter.

Step 5: Windows System File Check

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow
  • This repairs corrupted system files that might affect drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
