I am trying to plug in a brand new Botesty headphone/mic (wired), but it does not work (although it is recognized as plugged in on my HP). What is the suggestion? Send them back?

Hi @Sandi3992,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your Botesty wired headphone/mic is recognized as plugged in on your HP laptop running Windows 11, but audio or mic functions aren't working, it’s likely a configuration issue rather than a hardware defect. Here’s how to troubleshoot before considering a return:
1. Check the Jack Type
- Does your headset have a 3.5mm combo jack (for both mic and audio)?
- Make sure your HP laptop also has a combo audio jack. If it has separate mic and headphone jacks, you may need a splitter adapter.
2. Set the Correct Input/Output Device
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar > Sound settings.
- Under Output, select your headphones.
- Under Input, select your headset microphone.
3. Run the Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Playing Audio and Recording Audio troubleshooters.
4. Check Privacy Settings for Microphone
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Make sure the Microphone access is turned on.
- Ensure apps like Zoom, Teams, or Voice Recorder have permission.
5. Test with Voice Recorder
- Open the Voice Recorder app and try recording.
- If it doesn’t pick up sound, the mic may not be detected properly.
6. Try on Another Device
- Plug the headset into a phone or another laptop.
- If it works there, the issue is with your HP’s configuration or the jack.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
