I recieved my HP ENVY x360 just yesterday.
From the first time I booted the laptop I can hear a crackling sound in the speakers.
Also, the sound simply stops and I see a red cross on the speaker symbol. I have to disable and enable the driver fpr it to start working again.
I have made no new updates except the ones that was done as a part of the first boot.
I have practically scoured the internet and searched for a solution. Apparently, I am not the only one to face this problem but there has not been a concrete solution.
P.S - I had already sent a laptop back for this same reason. I recieved the exact faulty laptop back.

Yeah, unfortunately the random crackling hasn't been solved with different versions of the audio driver on my Envy x360. But it occurs very infrequent for myself. I usually just reboot the computer and problem goes away.

Hi @Praneeth007,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you.
As I Understand you have a crackling noise from the speakers,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did you try with multiple headsets to check if it happens on the headset also?
Did you uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers?
For a start please try these steps:
Please try with a different headset first. try playing multiple audio tracks. If it does not crackle then the internal speakers of the computer are faulty and need to be replaced by contacting HP phone support.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty
If it crackles also please try these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Then check the box delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and audio drivers from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Then check if the situation has been corrected.
Please respond to this post with the details of the product and with the results of the troubleshooting for further assistance.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
