HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (9Q8Z1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Just bought this laptop.  The specifications say that it ‘should’ have dual array-digital microphones but today in a Teams meeting, I had no microphone and the mic option was blacked out.  When I look in the device manager, it is not even recognizing that the computer has a microphone.  🤷‍♂️

Hi @Sk8rJoe, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (9Q8Z1AV) is not detecting its microphone, like it's become invisible to your system. 🤔 Let's become audio detectives and use a step-by-step approach to find that missing microphone and get your voice heard again! 🕵️‍♀️🎤➡️😊 We'll use all our senses to try and bring your microphone back online.

If your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (9Q8Z1AV) is not detecting its built-in microphone, making your voice unheard in calls and recordings, let's try these sensory troubleshooting steps to bring it back to life. Imagine we're giving your microphone a gentle nudge to start listening again! 😉 Try these actions: 👇

Check if the Microphone is Disabled in Device Manager

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. Look for an entry like Microphone Array or Internal Microphone.
    • If it's missing, go to Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    • If you see a disabled icon (downward arrow), right-click and select Enable.

Show Hidden Devices

  1. In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  2. Look under Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. If you find a grayed-out microphone, right-click it and select Uninstall device, then restart your laptop.

Check Sound Settings

  1. Open Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Scroll down to Input and see if the microphone is listed.
  3. If it's missing, click Manage sound devices and check if it's Disabled. If so, enable it.

Run the Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Find Recording Audio and click Run.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Reinstall Audio Drivers

  1. In Device Manager, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
  2. Find Realtek Audio or AMD Audio Device, right-click, and select Uninstall device (check the box for "Delete the driver software for this device").
  3. Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the correct driver automatically.
  4. If not, download and install the latest audio drivers from HPs support page:
    👉 HP Support - Drivers & Software

Check Privacy Settings

  1. Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
  2. Ensure Microphone access is ON.
  3. Scroll down and check if Microsoft Teams has access.

I hope this helps. 😊

Take care and have a good day. ☀️🎤😊
